Srinagar, April 18: The families affected by the boat capsizing incident in Srinagar on Thursday gathered on the banks of the River Jhelum in the Gandbal area for the third day, hoping for retrieval of dead bodies. Despite authorities’ every effort, there has been no success in retrieving the bodies.
The families involved in these tragic incidents are waiting helplessly to catch a last glimpse of their loved ones. Unfortunately, despite prayers and every conceivable effort, there is no trace of the missing trio, which includes a father-son duo. Everyone present at the scene is fervently praying for the missing person’s recovery.
Every individual there is expressing the sentiment that if a bridge had been constructed, precious lives could have been saved. They assert that while the government may eventually build the Golden Bridge, it won’t heal the wounds of those who lost loved ones in the boat capsizing incident.
Aijaz Ahmad told Rising Kashmir, “In Kashmir, action is often only taken in response to tragedy. He criticized the government for its tendency to wait for tragedies before taking action. He continued, “It must be questioned why there was a delay in the bridge’s construction, despite 15 years passing?”
On Tuesday, a boat carrying 15 people, mostly children, capsized in the Gandbal area of Srinagar. In the unfortunate incident, six people lost their lives, while others were rescued. Three individuals, including a father-son duo, remain missing.
Locals maintain this incident could have been prevented if the footbridge had been completed over the past 15 years. They continue to pray for the recovery of the missing trio. A sense of mourning still lingers in the Gandbal area, where several people were laid to rest on the first day of the incident.
