Mohammad Maqbool Rather, a teacher at the school told Rising Kashmir that a garden was setup by teachers in 2012.
He said that this garden is proving to be a useful as teaching method and at the same time the vegetable produce from the garden is used in the midday meals.
Rather added that they practically teach students how they can grow fruits and vegetables in their homes.
“The garden helps us in demonstrating students’ importance of plants in our lives as food factories and oxygen reservoirs,” he said.
Many of our students have developed gardening as hobby and they grow vegetables and fruits at their homes.
The teachers here said that they take special care of the garden.
“Both teachers and students take active part in sowing and plantation,” they said.
They added that teachers bring seeds of different varieties from their houses for sowing in the garden.
Mint, Potato, Tomato, Corn, Green and Red chillies, Garlic, Cucumber, Pumpkin, Bitter Melon, Brinjal, Onion, Kale, Bottle Gourd and Green Beans are grown in the garden.
Masrat Akther, a 5th-grade student said that she enjoys practical classes conducted in the garden.
