Baramulla, March 09: In a world where social media and technology dominate our lives, three young men from Baramulla have reminded us of the importance of human connection and bravery.
Saqib Ahmad Gojri, Wamiq Pervaiz Kullu, and Sahil Ahmad War were Thursday honoured by the Baramulla police for their heroic acts of saving two precious lives from drowning in separate incidents in the town.
Wamiq Parvez Kullu, a 10th class student, recounted his experience of saving a girl from the Jhelum river near Azadgung Cement Bridge.
“I just jumped into the river to save the girl. It all happened within a moment,” he said.
He said that he was riding a bike and heading towards his father in the market to get some money for examination notes.
“When we reached near the bridge, we saw a girl trying to jump into the river. I told my friends to get hold of her. But she jumped within no time. She jumped from one side of the bridge and I jumped from the other side of the bridge and got hold of her,” Wamiq added.
Sahil, an 11th standard student, assisted the young girl to the hospital and saved her life.
Gojri, a painter by profession, saved another girl from drowning in the Jhelum river at Suspension Bridge Dewan Bagh Baramulla, while Kullu and War assisted in rescuing another person from drowning in the Jhelum river at Cement Bridge Baramulla.
Their selflessness and bravery have won them accolades from all walks of life, reminding us of the importance of looking out for one another.
At the felicitation ceremony, Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Ashok Nagpure-IPS praised the young men for their courage and stressed the need for more brave hearts like them in the nation. He also expressed hope that their actions would inspire others to do good for society.
The ceremony was attended by Additional SP RK Parihar, DSP DAR Peerzada Aijaz, and SHO Baramulla DSP Prob Naveed, who commended the young men for their bravery and urged others to follow their example.
