Kargil, March 15: The Basic Snow Ski Coaching Camp, organised by the Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association (LSSA), concluded at the Ski Slope of Barkboogo in Goma Kargil on Saturday. The training camp aimed to promote winter sports among local youth and witnessed the participation of over 20 young skiers, aged 8 to 20, who received expert coaching in essential skiing techniques.
The closing ceremony was graced by Deputy Secretary Culture, Nazir Hussain, as the Chief Guest, along with youth leader Abass Ali Khan as the Guest of Honour, and President of the Ski Mountaineering Association of Ladakh, Asgar Ali, as the Special Guest. Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Nazir Hussain praised the efforts of LSSA in making skiing accessible to local youth and announced a cash award of Rs 10,000 for the association. He also appreciated senior journalist and sports activist Anayat Ali for encouraging parents to involve their children in such programs.
Guest of Honour Abass Ali Khan emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing local talent, while Special Guest Asgar Ali also contributed Rs 10,000 to support future skiing programmes.
During the event, young participants showcased their newly acquired skiing skills, earning applause from the audience. Certificates were distributed to all participants, and a special memento was presented to Ski Technician Wasim Mir for his dedication. Experts who provided training during the camp included Sadiq Ali, Syed Shamshuddin, and Mansoor Ali Lal. With growing interest in winter sports, such initiatives are expected to boost tourism and provide local athletes with opportunities to compete at national and international levels.
