Pulwama, Jan 28: Irshad Ahmad Dar, a progressive farmer from Patal Bagh village of Pulwama, was honoured by an invitation to the “At Home” reception hosted by President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Irshad was one among ten farmers selected from across the country for the prestigious event, where he shared space with dignitaries and eminent personalities.
Notably, he was the sole farmer representing Jammu and Kashmir. Irshad said that by
“By inviting me, the entire farming community of Jammu and Kashmir has been honoured,” Irshad said while expressing his gratitude.
He also had an opportunity to interact with the president and it focused on agricultural innovations, organic farming, and the application of modern technology in agriculture.
He described the experience as a dream come true.
“It was a remarkable opportunity to meet the President and have the privilege to interact with Her,” he said.
Irshad said that he exchanged ideas with fellow farmers from across India, which was enriching and inspiring.
A pioneer in adopting agricultural innovations, Irshad cultivates hybrid varieties of peas, paddy, mustard, and exotic vegetables, in addition to saffron.
His dedication to organic farming has earned him national recognition, including an award from the World Researchers Association for his contributions to sustainable farming. He has also received the “Best Farmer Award” and the “Champion Farmer Award” for his outstanding work in saffron and vegetable production.
Irshad credited his success to the support provided by SKUAST-K’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Malangpora.
“I belong to a humble farming family, and the guidance and encouragement from KVK Malangpora have been instrumental in my journey. It is because of their hand holding that my efforts in the farming sector have been recognized at the national level,” he said, expressing his gratitude to SKUAST- K Professor Dr. Javid Mughloo who heads KVK Malangpora.
