Injured soldier succumbs, terrorist apprehended in Baramulla encounter

Srinagar, Oct 27: An army soldier who was injured in Baramulla encounter succumbed to his injuries at Srinagar hospital, while a Lasker-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was apprehended alive by security forces, police said on Thursday.
The slain was identified as RFN Kulbhushan Manta of 52 RR. He was injured during an encounter with terrorists in Wanseeran Taripora village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Northern army commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi & all ranks of the northern command paid their tributes to the slain soldier.
 In a tweet, Northern Army Command said, “Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Army Cdr NC and all ranks of Northern Command convey heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Rifleman Kulbushan Manta who succumbed to his injuries while fighting terrorists at Baramulla.”
A police spokesman said during the initial exchange of fire, one Army Jawan of 52RR received a gunshot injured and was immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
However, he, later on, succumbed to his injuries at Srinagar hospital.
“Besides, one local terrorist of proscribed terror outfit LeT was apprehended by joint party of security forces. He was identified as Nisar Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Akbar Bhat resident of Shrakwara Kreeri, Baramulla,” he said.
The spokesman said another terrorist is a foreign Pakistani terrorist namely Usman of LeT who is being tracked down as the cordon area has been extended due to dense forest area.
Earlier acting on specific information regarding presence of terrorists in Wanseeran Taripora Jungle area in the jurisdiction of PS Sheeri in Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and security forces in the said area.
“During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” he said.
The spokesman said arms and ammunition including 01 modified AKS-74U, 01 Magazine, 28 rounds among other incriminating materials have been recovered from the apprehended terrorist.
“In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Sheeri and investigation taken up,” he said.
On Thursday, a terrorist was killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Asthan Marg, Kausarnag area of south Kashmir district.
The police spokesman said one terrorist has been killed so far and the operation is still in progress and search in the area is still going on.
Moreover, a low-intensity blast took place at Aloosa in district Bandipora while Army’s vehicle was passing through Aloosa area. No loss of life was reported. Reinforcement reached and the area was being searched, the spokesman said.
