The world famous Pangong Tso Lake in Ladakh on Monday hosted the first-ever frozen lake marathon at an altitude of roughly 13,862 feet while the event was recorded in Guinness World Records.
Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh in a statement said, “The 1st Pangong Frozen Lake Half Marathon is now officially registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. LAHDC Leh and ASF Ladakh hold the world record for conducting the highest altitude frozen lake half-marathon at Pangong Lake today.”
A first of its kind in Ladakh, the Pangong frozen lake half-marathon saw overwhelming participation from athletes across the world.
“Congratulations, we have made it to the world record. Indeed a successful event inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vibrant Villages Programme for border regions”, stated Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson.
The Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon was organized by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh in collaboration with Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh.
