Padum, Zanskar, July 04: With the upcoming visit of Dalai Lama to Zanskar drawing near, the local administration has intensified its preparations to ensure a smooth and dignified reception. A high-level review meeting was convened at the Tourist Dak Bungalow in Padum under the chairmanship of In-charge Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mohd Hassan. Key stakeholders from various departments participated in the meeting, which was aimed at finalising logistics, infrastructure needs, and event coordination. As part of the planning process, several nodal officers were appointed to handle specific responsibilities linked to the visit.SDM Hassan directed all concerned officers to promptly raise requisitions with their parent departments, urging swift action to resolve potential gaps well before the arrival of His Holiness. He stressed the importance of timely and comprehensive arrangements, highlighting that the visit carries immense significance for the region.During the meeting, the President of the Zanskar Buddhist Association, Faksang Lawang, highlighted the urgent need for enhanced sanitation facilities to accommodate the large number of pilgrims anticipated, especially during the upcoming Summer Mega Symposium scheduled to be held in Karsha. The issue of additional toilet infrastructure was flagged as a priority. The SDM assured full administrative support and instructed departments to work in synergy for both the Dalai Lama’s visit and associated events such as the Yarchos Chenmo spiritual gathering. Special attention is being given to arrangements for dignitaries, VVIPs, and guest accommodations. Among the attendees were representatives from the Indian Army (OC Army Camp Padum), GREF, Executive Engineers, BDOs, members of the Zanskar Gonpa Association, and key organisers of the Summer Symposium.
