Awantipora, June 30: The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), organized One-Day Workshop today to commemorate National Statistics Day 2025. The workshop aimed to highlight the critical role of Statistics and Data Science in diverse domains and to promote awareness of their interdisciplinary applications.The key feature of the program was an invited lecture by Prof. Shalab from Department of Statistics and Data Science, IIT Kanpur titled “Journey of Statistics to Data Science” who provided an in-depth exposition of the evolution of Statistics into modern Data Science, elaborating on their fundamental interconnections and their growing relevance in the age of big data and artificial intelligence. An interactive session with Prof. Shalab further enriched the proceedings, enabling students, research scholars, and participants from various colleges across the valley to engage directly with the expert for effective knowledge exchange. The event witnessed active participation from faculty, research scholars, and students.
