Srinagar, May 20: College of Temperate Sericulture, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Mirgund has developed a silkworm body disinfectant (SERIFIN) under the externally funded project titled “Development of User- Friendly Silkworm Body and Rearing Bed Disinfectant.” sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (Govt. India) under Technology Development Programme. The technology has got high relevance in the present day context in view of being environmentally sustainable, economically viable and technologically feasible and aims to support sericulture community by reducing disease incidence and improving cocoon yield.
The product was distributed among the silk worms rearers of District Baramulla today on 20 th May 2025 by Division of Sericulture Crop Improvement at College of Temperate Sericulture Mirgund by Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Sahaf, Associate Dean of the College of Temperate Sericulture in the presence of Prof. Nissar Ahmad Ganaie, Head, Division of Sericulture Crop Improvement, Prof. Irfan Latief Khan, Head, Division of Cocoon Crop Production, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat Associate Professor and Principal Investigator of the project and Dr. Asif Rafiq Rather, Junior Research. At the onset, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Principal Investigator of the project, emphasized the significance and practical benefits of Serifin for healthier silkworm rearing and diseases management.
The launch event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local Sericulture farmers who welcomed the introduction of Serifin.
