Ganderbal, Dec 02: In a significant achievement under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme, Block Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has successfully sanctioned and completed all 560 cases targeted for this year, ensuring the construction of pucca houses for poor families. This marks a major milestone in providing safe and durable housing to the most vulnerable sections of society.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), launched on June 25, 2015, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aims to address urban housing shortages by providing affordable, permanent housing to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low-Income Groups (LIG), and Middle-Income Groups (MIG).
Block Development Officer (BDO) Gund, Asfeen Ali Khan said that the block had set a target of 560 cases for 2024, all of which have been sanctioned and completed successfully. “This year, we achieved our target of sanctioning 560 pucca houses for families below the poverty line,” he said, emphasizing the commitment to housing for all.
The success of the PMAY scheme in Block Gund can be attributed to its structured approach. Funds were released in phases based on construction milestones, from the foundation stage to the final completion. Regular monitoring by officers ensured that the construction progressed smoothly and that each beneficiary met the required criteria before receiving the next instalment.
Khan further noted that the scheme will continue to benefit more Poor families in the future, ensuring they have access to safe and permanent housing. “Our officers have diligently monitored the progress of each house, ensuring the final payment was released only after thorough verification,” he added.
