After registering victory from the Handwara Assembly seat, JKPC President Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday said that they would fight for statehood of the Jammu and Kashmir on every possible platform.

“… .The last time I was elected from here, I went to India’s most empowered and powerful assembly. Today, unfortunately, after what happened here on August 5, I am going to India’s weakest assembly. However, we haven’t got that much seats as NC-Congress is leading in Jammu and Kashmir. We will fight for statehood on the floor of the assembly and wherever possible…,” said Lone.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Lone accused them of doing “experiments” in J-K and said, “let the people of J-K live in peace, especially Kashmiris.”

Sajad Gani Lone said, “I request the BJP to stop their experiments here. You never know which new beast is created here because of their experiments. I want to say stop experimenting, let the people of J-K live in peace, especially Kashmiris.”

As the counting of votes is still underway, the National Conference-Congress alliance is on course to form government in Jammu and Kashmir as results of assembly polls on Tuesday sprung a few surprises.

Meanwhile, Jairam Ramesh, while addressing a press conference, referred to the results in Jammu and Kashmir where the National Conference-Congress alliance is poised for a majority in the assembly.

“The chapter on Haryana is not complete, it will continue. The chapter in Jammu and Kashmir, of course, there will be a coalition government. And as I said till yesterday, various attempts were being made to ensure that the majority will not come to the Congress-NC coalition but the people of Jammu and Kashmir have given a very clear mandate for this coalition government,” he said.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh praised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he called the party’s best performance so far in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

The Election Commission of India on its official website declared results for the J-K Legislative Assembly elections where the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) won 42 seats and Congress won 6 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 29 seats. (ANI)
