Inter-state narcotics racket busted in Rajouri; two Punjab residents held

Srinagar, June 01: The Jammu and Police Kashmir Thursday busted an inter-state narcotics racket in Rajouri and arrested two Punjab residents and seized  around  22 kg  of heroin- like substances worth crores from their possession.
The arrest has been made in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district with investigation into forward and backward linkages of the case has been set into motion. 
Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Amritpal Singh told Rising Kashmir that based on specific intelligence input received by police that two suspects are in transit from Rajouri towards Jammu in a vehicle on Wednesday.
Giving more  details, he said acting swiftly over information, police teams were put on alert across the district and existing nakas were tightened to intercept them while some mobile MCVPs were also deployed. 
SSP Singh said that on Wednesday at around 09:30 pm, a vehicle bearing registration number JK01AB 5470 was intercepted at Jammu- Rajouri Poonch national highway at Police naka near ITI Sunderbani.
“Two Punjab based persons were travelling in the car which was put to frisking and  during the process, a large quantity of heroine like substance was recovered which was approximately 22 kilograms ,” he said.
Later, police identified the accused persons as Onkar Singh, a resident of village Talmandi Barth, District Gurdaspur Punjab and Shamsher Singh, a resident of Village Barthmal Tehsil Gurdaspur Punjab.
SSP Rajouri referred to the bust of the gang as a significant victory for police in the fight against drugs, adding that the narco-terror aspect of this recovery is also being looked at.
SSP Rajouri said both the accused have been arrested with a case in FIR , under  NDPS Act,  has been registered at Police station Sunderbani.
” Further investigation into the matter is going on and all the  linkages are being traced with more arrests in the case are expected during the course of investigation,” he said.
The arrest of these two peddlers has been made by a police team headed by SHO Sunderbani Deepak Pathania under the supervision of SDPO Nowshera Tusif Ahmed and Additional SP Nowshera Mohd Rafi Giri.
