Jammu, Feb 20: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chief spokesperson Salman Nizami on Tuesday raised concerns regarding the National Conference’s alleged ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party after the revocation of Article 370.
In a statement issued here, Nizami said, “As ambiguity deepens around NC’s political stance, questions emerge about its motives and alliances, notably with the Gupkar alliance’s abrupt breakup and distancing from the People’s Democratic Party.”
He questioned the silence on the BJP leader Devender Rana’s claim of NC seeking BJP alliance post Article 370 revocation. He referenced Farooq Abdullah’s statement welcoming the BJP, saying this has added to NC’s political ambiguity. “The sudden Gupkar alliance breakup and distancing from PDP further raise questions,” he said.
Nizami denied claims of DPAP Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad “begging” for a Rajya Sabha seat, clarifying that seat allocation is based on MLA representation.
Meanwhile, the DPAP expressed concern over residential house and structure damages and orchard destruction in the Phaag area due to strong windstorms, demanding immediate relief for affected families. Heavy rains and hailstorms damaged houses, structures, and crops in Chek-Dara, Faqir-Gujri, Dardkhover and Mulnar areas.
DPAP President Central Kashmir Zone, Peer Bilal urged the government to assess losses promptly and provide aid to affected people. He said there is a need for support, especially for damaged houses, structures, and orchards, calling for government assistance.
He said various residential houses and other structures have suffered extensive damage including orchards. “Government must come to their support and succour,” Bilal said.
