Kokernag, May 2: Two visually impaired sisters from Mathindoo Palpora in Kokernag have passed their class-12 exams with distinction, earning praise for their hard work and determination.
The Sub-Divisional Administration of Kokernag on Friday felicitated the sisters, saying they have proven that vision lies not just in the eyes, but in determination and spirit.
Mehvish Manzoor and Khushboo Jan, students of Government Higher Secondary School Gurridraman—one of the remotest schools located near Margan Valley—overcame immense challenges to succeed in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) exams.
Tehsildar Larnoo, Syed Muiz Qadri, told Rising Kashmir that he, along with other revenue officials, visited the siblings’ home on behalf of the Sub-Divisional Administration to congratulate them. “Their hard work and dedication are nothing short of inspiring,” Qadri said.
Despite being visually impaired since birth, the sisters prepared for their exams using audio notes and were assisted by scribes during the examination. “They dictated their answers and performed exceptionally well,” Qadri added.
In recognition of their achievement, the administration presented them with mementos, a cash reward, and extended best wishes for their future endeavors.
“Government schools now embrace specially-abled students with love and support, ensuring no child is denied education,” Qadri added.
Mehvish expressed gratitude to her teachers and the school administration. “The staff at Gurridraman Higher Secondary School were very supportive. I was blind by birth, but with the help of special educators, I too aspire to become one and support other specially-abled students,” she said.
Her sister Khushboo said she aims to pursue a Master’s degree and become a teacher.
