Katra, May 2: The UGC–Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, Friday conducted an eight-day online training programme titled “NEP Orientation and Sensitisation Programme”, aimed at university and college faculty members from across India. The event, aligned with the objectives of UGC-MMTTC, sought to enhance the quality of education by promoting excellence and professionalism in teaching.
In his inaugural address, Professor Supran Kumar Sharma, Director MMTTC-SMVDU and Chief Guest of the event, underscored the importance of sensitising educators to their evolving roles in the higher education landscape. He emphasised the need to reimagine the academic ecosystem in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly by strengthening the contributions of faculty members.
Professor Sharada Potukuchi, Deputy Director, MMTTC-SMVDU, described the teacher’s role in NEP implementation as vital, highlighting that such workshops equip faculty with the necessary tools for effective policy translation in academic settings. Dr Pabitra Kumar Jena, Coordinator of the programme, outlined the comprehensive curriculum which included topics such as Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education, Indian Knowledge Systems, Academic Leadership, Governance and Management, Research and Development, Skill Development, Student Diversity and Inclusive Education, and ICT in Higher Education. A total of 71 participants from State Universities, Deemed-to-be Universities, Private Institutions, and Institutions of National Importance engaged in 16 technical sessions delivered by experts from leading institutions across the country.
During the valedictory session, Dr Jena extended his gratitude to Professor Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU, for his continuous support and guidance. He also thanked Ajay Kumar Sharma , Registrar, and Shri Neeraj Gupta (JKAS), Finance Officer, for their cooperation, along with the organising committee members for their dedicated efforts. The programme concluded with a commitment to furthering academic excellence and realising the vision of NEP 2020 through teacher empowerment.
