Srinagar: In a ground breaking initiative to empower women, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced free travel for women on all government-owned buses, including eBuses, starting April 1, 2025. The announcement was made on the occasion of International Women’s Day, as a gesture to promote gender equality and ease the financial burden on women.
This initiative aims to enhance access to education, employment, and healthcare, particularly for women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. By making public transport more accessible, Abdullah emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting women’s mobility and ensuring greater participation in the workforce and society.
“On this Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to the empowerment of women. This move will not only reduce the financial burden on women but also ensure greater mobility and access to opportunities,” said Omar Abdullah during his address.
