Jammu, Jun 01: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Working President, Raman Bhalla on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of politicising Operation Sindoor for vote bank politics, asserting that such actions undermine the dignity and sacrifices of India’s armed forces.
Addressing the public and media during his visit to the Nai Basti area, Bhalla called for respecting the valour of the military and warned against using national security issues for political gains.
“Using Operation Sindoor as a tool for political point-scoring is shameful,” Bhalla said, according to a statement issued here. “Such politics trivialise the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers and diminish the dignity of our armed forces. The military’s role is to protect the nation, not to be used as pawns in electoral battles.”
The Congress leader further criticised the BJP-led central government for “failing to uphold democratic values” and for what he described as a “lack of respect” for the military’s sacrifices.
“The Army has consistently made the nation proud with its bravery and dedication,” he said. “But instead of recognising this, the BJP is using operations like Sindoor to serve political agendas. This is a disservice to the nation and its heroes.”
Bhalla further condemned the silence of the ruling party on incidents of disrespect towards women by some senior BJP members. He demanded accountability and decisive action. “Insulting women’s dignity cannot be justified. The BJP must act responsibly and ensure such incidents are condemned and addressed,” he added.
The JKPCC leader highlighted the plight of local residents in Jammu district, alleging that the government has failed to provide basic amenities. “People are suffering due to persistent shortages of drinking water and irregular power supply,” he said. “Despite promises of round-the-clock electricity, consumers face long, unscheduled outages, which have severely impacted small industries and handloom units and led to financial losses.”
He questioned the BJP leadership’s commitment to public welfare, asking, “Why are the people still deprived of basic necessities like water and electricity? The government must clarify its priorities.”
The Congress leader also demanded urgent relief and rehabilitation for victims of cross-border shelling in Poonch, including the provision of safe plots for rebuilding lives. “Greater efforts are needed to rebuild trust in border areas through confidence-building measures, including raising Dogra and border battalions,” he said.
