The Health and Medical Education Department Thursday suspended two doctors following the incident at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore where doctors allegedly moved a patient’s uterus instead of performing a scheduled ENT surgery.

“Pending enquiry into the incident that occurred on 03.02.2025 at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore and to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system, the following doctors are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu till further orders,” the H&ME said in an order issued today.

The suspended doctors are Dr. Anjum Nazir, Consultant Gynaecologist, SDH Sopore and Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer, (Diploma in Anesthesia), DH Bandipora.

Furthermore, it is hereby ordered that the aforementioned doctors are prohibited/banned from engaging in any form of private practice within entire Jammu & Kashmir.

Additionally, Operation theatre of Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, shall remain sealed till the conclusion of the enquiry.

Earlier in the day, the health authorities in Sopore sealed the operation theatre of the private hospital. The incident has sparked outrage, raising serious concerns about medical negligence and the hospital’s surgical protocols.

Earlier, the patient was admitted for a routine ENT procedure, but due to an alleged error, doctors instead carried out an irreversible surgical procedure, leading to the removal of the uterus.

Meanwhile, the health department has also constituted a committee to further investigate the matter.
