Qaimoh (Kulgam), Feb 15: The construction of the Sub District Hospital, Qaimoh, began in 2008 and has yet to be completed, even after 16 years, significantly impacting the health prospects of the area and overburdening the district hospital in Kulgam.
According to residents of Qaimoh, the construction of the SDH started over a decade ago and remains pending year after year.
If the hospital becomes operational, it will provide better health amenities at a closer distance and also serve over dozens of villages adjacent to it, says Sheikh Nadeem Bashir.
The old PHC building has a lot of space crunch. We are hopeful that we will have a new official SDH with the full creation of posts which will help over a possible over one lakh. The R&B is giving it a final touch and hope the remaining work is completed at the earliest possible time, which will positively reduce the burden on the district hospital, Kulgam,” he said.
An officer from Roads and Building (R&B) Kulgam, told Rising Kashmir that the work on the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Qaimoh began in 2008, but due to unfavorable circumstances, it was delayed.
He said that the work is now ongoing and in its finishing stages. He added that by the end of April 2024, subject to the availability of funds, the work will be completed and handed over to the health department.
“Its progress was halted due to unfavorable circumstances, including turmoil and other issues such as non-availability of funds, which hindered its smooth operation. However, the work is now approximately 95 percent complete, and subject to the availability of funds, it will be finished well within the scheduled time,” he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam visited the under-construction hospital a few days ago to assess the progress first-hand.
“We took stock of the work on the SDH Building. The work is likely to be completed within a month or so,” he said.
He said, we have instructed the R&B and the contractor to work round the clock to complete the project. “We have already experienced delays, and no further delays will be accepted. We are hopeful that it will be completed in a month or a month and a half,” he added.
