Srinagar, May 10: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Friday said that “administrative hurdles” against his party’s initiatives signify the acknowledgement of defeat by adversaries.
Addressing a workers’ convention in the Machil area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, he urged the people to “defy intimidation and coercion”.
Describing the ongoing parliamentary election as a semi-final, Abdullah tinted the significance of electing representatives to Parliament, hinting at a final reckoning in September. He reassured the residents of Machil of his commitment to addressing their concerns, highlighting the NC’s historical ties with remote areas like Machil.
Reflecting on the NC’s efforts in power, the former chief minister acknowledged the challenges faced by remote communities and reiterated his dedication to equitable development. He recounted initiatives undertaken during his tenure, including the establishment of government offices, infrastructure development, and employment generation.
Taking a swipe at his opponents, Omar challenged their track record, questioning the efficacy of their past endeavours in serving the constituency.
Criticising the lack of infrastructure projects, particularly tunnels, the NC leader pledged to champion the cause of development and stressed the need for tunnels in remote areas like Keran, Karnah, Tangdhar and Gurez.
Omar also visited Shah Wali Drugmulla to express solidarity with the family of the late ASI Manzoor Ahmed.
