Srinagar, May 03: Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along multiple sectors of the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border for the ninth consecutive night on Saturday. The Indian Army has responded in a “calibrated and proportionate manner.”
These ceasefire violations began in the aftermath of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 civilians, including tourists and foreign nationals, were killed. Despite the ongoing hostilities, there have been no reported casualties on either side so far.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, PRO Defence Lt Col Suneel Bartwal confirmed that during the night of May 2 and 3, the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in the Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
He stated that the Indian Army responded “promptly and proportionately” to the cross-border firing.
“Indian Army troops acted in a calibrated and proportionate manner,” Lt Col Bartwal said, adding that the disciplined approach adopted by Indian forces amid growing border tensions.
The exchange of fire comes amid heightened tensions between the two countries and a series of retaliatory measures following the deadly Pahalgam attack.
Sources in the Indian Army told Rising Kashmir that forward posts have been fortified with advanced surveillance systems to counter infiltration and hostile actions more effectively.
These systems include high-resolution night vision devices, ground sensors, thermal imagers, and smart fencing integrated with command-and-control mechanisms.
“Modern surveillance tools give our troops an operational edge and enable faster, more accurate responses. These upgrades, they added, have played a critical role in foiling several infiltration attempts in recent months,” they said.
