Srinagar, Jan 17: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will preside over the main event of the 76th Republic Day function on January 26 at M A Stadium, Jammu, where he will take the salute. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will be the chief guest at the event.
The government has issued instructions to the Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu to coordinate the event’s arrangements.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the Republic Day function in Srinagar and take the salute there. Minister for Health, Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Masood Itoo, will preside over the function at the Anantnag district headquarters and take the salute.
Other ministers will oversee Republic Day functions across the Union Territory. Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs, will preside over the event at the Udhampur district headquarters. Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election Departments, Javid Ahmad Dar, will take the salute at the Baramulla district headquarters.
Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services, Sports, and ARI and Trainings, will preside over the function and take the salute at the Kathua district headquarters.
As per the General Administration Department’s orders, District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons will preside over functions and take the salute at their respective district headquarters, excluding Anantnag, Udhampur, Baramulla, and Kathua. Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) will oversee functions and take the salute at their respective Sub-Divisional headquarters, while Tehsildars or senior-most civil officers will preside over functions and take the salute at their Tehsil, Block, or Municipal headquarters, as determined by the concerned Deputy Commissioners.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir government has deployed 40 officers to ensure the smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations across the Union Territory. These officers will be responsible for overseeing arrangements, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring security at all designated venues.
Security has been heightened across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Republic Day function, with multiple checkpoints, CCTV surveillance, and enhanced monitoring along the Line of Control (LoC). Senior civil and police officers have reviewed the arrangements for the event at Maulana Azad Stadium, the venue for the main function in Jammu. The officers assessed security protocols, logistical requirements, and coordination efforts to ensure a smooth and secure event.
