SKUAST-K, College of Sericulture hosts entrepreneurship awareness program on Sericulture

Mirgund, Oct 29: The College of Temperate Sericulture at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Mirgund, organized a one-day training program on “Importance of Disinfection and Hygiene in Sericulture” on Tuesday. The event, supported by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) under its Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme (EAP), aimed to inspire entrepreneurial interest in sericulture among youth.
Dr. Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Associate Professor and Training Coordinator, inaugurated the session, emphasizing sericulture as a promising avenue for youth to generate livelihood while pursuing formal education. Prof. (Dr.) Zia ul Haque Rufai, Head of the Division of Sericulture Crop Improvement, shared valuable insights into sericulture practices, while Prof. (Dr.) M. F. Baqual, Head of the Division of Host Plant Production, outlined the program’s objectives, stressing the importance of such initiatives in fostering entrepreneurial skills among young people.
Dr. Ifat Bashir, Head of the Department of Sericulture at Government Degree College Sopore, expressed her appreciation for the program, advocating for more such training sessions to benefit students. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohd Younus Wani, Assistant Professor.
Also, one Day Entrepreneurship Skill Development Program on “Mobilization of Educated Unemployed Youth Towards Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Sericulture’’ sponsored by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) was organized on Tuesday by Division of Cocoon Crop Production, College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund at Govt Boys Hr Secondary School Jawahar Nagar Srinagar.
Fifty participants were registered for the programme. Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Dar, Assistant Professor, CoTS, Mirgund welcomed the guests & the participants. The coordinator of the programme Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Dar deliberated upon the aims and objectives of the programme. He impressed upon the participants to become job providers instead of job seekers. Dr. Musarat Bashir and Dr. Iqra Akber gave detailed presentations and lectures regarding different avenues and entrepreneurship opportunities in the field of sericulture.
