Srinagar, July: Dr M Maheshwari has assumed office as the Director of the Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute (CSR&TI), Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Pampore.
During her inaugural visit to the Directorate of Sericulture Department in Jammu & Kashmir, Dr Maheshwari received a warm welcome from Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (IAS), Director of Sericulture, J&K.
Dr Maheshwari assured Bhat of her full support, saying the Central Silk Board will conduct specialized training programs for silkworm rearers, farmers, and youth aimed at their welfare and upliftment. A significant highlight of her address was the commitment to accelerate the Mulberry Plantation Project along the National Highway, a collaborative effort between CSR&TI and the Directorate of Sericulture, J&K. She pledged to supply mulberry foliage free of cost from CSR&TI-managed farms to silkworm rearers in J&K.
Director Ajaz expressed gratitude to P Sivakumar (IFS), Member Secretary of the Central Silk Board, Bangalore, and Dr M Maheshwari for their unwavering support to the sericulture sector in J&K. He underscored the positive impact of this partnership on the local sericulture industry and the livelihoods it sustains.
Dr Maheshwari’s visit heralds a promising beginning to her tenure at CSR&TI, promising new opportunities and progress for the sericulture community in Jammu & Kashmir, the department said.
