J&K Sports Council Secretary Honours Boxing Team!

Srinagar, June 26: The Jammu and Kashmir boxing team was felicitated today by Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, during a special ceremony held to recognise their impressive performance at the 6th Junior National Boxing Championship in Rohtak, Haryana.As per a statement issued here, the spotlight was on young Bareena, who clinched a silver medal and was named Best Promising Boxer of the Tournament for her exceptional display of skill and determination.The event, held at the Sports Council office in Srinagar, was attended by Anissa Nabi, Chief Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council, along with team coaches, officials and members of the boxing contingent. While congratulating the team, Gul praised their dedication and competitive spirit. She particularly highlighted the growing success and participation of women in sports across the Union Territory. Bareena’s accomplishment, she said, marked a significant milestone in the evolving landscape of women’s involvement in physically demanding and traditionally male-dominated sports.“Women athletes in J&K are consistently proving their capability and resilience in all disciplines, including challenging combat sports like boxing. Bareena’s performance is a shining example of what focused training and unwavering commitment can achieve. It is essential to support and nurture such talent to inspire many more young women to step confidently into the sporting arena,” she said. Gul also lauded the boxing coach for their relentless efforts in mentoring and preparing the athletes, noting that such behind-the-scenes dedication is critical to building successful national-level teams. She further affirmed the J&K Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality training, infrastructure, and competitive opportunities for women athletes, with plans to host more national and domestic events in the coming months.
