Ganderbal, Dec 23: The Gagangeer-Sonamarg Feeder in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has been successfully energised by the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), following meticulous fitness clearance from the Technical Testing and Inspection Committee (TTIC).
Taking to X, the KPDCL officially announced the accomplishment, stating, “After receiving fitness clearance from TTIC, Gagangeer-Sonamarg Feeder successfully energized by KPDCL through underground cabling via Z Morh Tube: Er. Nawab Ali, EE Ganderbal.”
Er Nawab Ali, the Executive Engineer of Ganderbal, highlighted the significance of this achievement, saying the electrification process involved meticulous underground cabling through the Z Morh Tube. This accomplishment marks a crucial step forward in ensuring a more robust and reliable energy supply for the region, he said.
As per reports, the power line which included iron poles, faced considerable damage during the winter months due to heavy snowfall and avalanches, particularly in the vulnerable hung stretch. To address this challenge, the KPDCL undertook a proactive initiative last year, deciding to lay underground power cables from Gagangeer to Shutkadi Sonamarg.
An official from the KPDCL said the initiative aimed to prevent electricity-related issues in the famous tourist spot throughout the year. He said this year, their efforts came to fruition, with the successful energisation of the Gagangeer-Sonamarg Feeder.
“This accomplishment not only addresses the seasonal challenges posed by winter conditions but also reinforces the commitment to providing uninterrupted power services to the picturesque Sonamarg, ensuring a seamless experience for both residents and visitors alike,” the officials added.
