Fasal Bima Yojana to provide coverage against crop losses: Dir Agri

Srinagar, July 01: Farmers across Kashmir have got relief with the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) with officials saying that the scheme will provide comprehensive coverage against crop losses arising out of natural calamities and unseasonal rains.
In this regard, Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today Inaugurated Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Crop Insurance week from 01 to 07 July at Directorate of Agriculture, Lalmandi, Srinagar.
While addressing the seminar on Crop Insurance week, the director agriculture highlighted the importance of the PMFBY and said that this move is of significant importance for the welfare and well-being of the farming community of the region.
“The PMFBY would enable farmers especially, small and marginal farmers, to get comprehensive coverage against crop losses arising out of natural calamities and unseasonal rains,” he said.
The director said the implementation of PMFBY would have a positive impact on the agriculture scenario in the region.
Director Agriculture marked the role of proper dissemination of relevant information among the farmers and impressed upon the officers to ensure that this scheme reaches each and every farmer so that the desired results could be achieved in a time-bound.
The director urged farmers to avail the benefit of PM Fasal Bima Yojana. He asked farmers to adopt innovative practices with sufficient insurance protection from climatic catastrophe. The programme was attended by Deputy Director (Central) and other senior officers of the department.
Officials informed that the last date to apply for enrolment of the crop insurance is July 15, 2023 and farmers have been asked to register before the due date.
Notably, on June 27, the director attended a workshop on the implementation of the PMFBY for the officials of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department in Kargil, Ladakh.
There also a request was made to the Administrative Secretary Agriculture Department, J&K by Administrative Secretary Agriculture Ladakh for deputation of an expert for the implementation of PMFBY.
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was launched on 18 February 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an insurance service for farmers for their yields.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the government had extended the PMFBY to the farmers of all 20 districts of the union territory in February 2023.
PMFBY aims to provide a comprehensive insurance cover against failure of the crop thus helping in stabilising the income of the farmers. The Scheme covers all Food & Oilseeds crops and Annual Commercial/Horticultural Crops for which past yield data is available and for which requisite number of Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) are being conducted under General Crop Estimation Survey.
