Pulwama, Oct 28: Residents of Wasimarg village in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have urged authorities of Roads and Buildings (R&B) to macadamise a crucial link road that has been in dire need of repair for over two decades.
The 2-kilometer stretch of road, connecting Wasimarg village with Kanidajan crossing, has been a source of frustration for local residents.
Ghulam Ahmad Bhat , an aged resident, said that their pleas have fallen on deaf ears for the past 20 years.
“Two years ago, some efforts were made to widen the road, but the work was subsequently abandoned, leading to further deterioration. The road now features numerous potholes, often filled with rainwater, making it inconvenient and sometimes impassable for commuters,” he said, adding that the situation has become so dire that passenger vehicles have ceased to operate on this road.
“This poses a significant challenge for individuals who lack access to private vehicles, especially when they need to transport patients to hospitals. At times, residents have resorted to carrying patients in need of emergency care on their shoulders to reach the main road,” he said.
The residents are once again appealing to higher authorities of Roads and Buildings for the much-needed of this 2-kilometer road.
They stress that repairing the road would not only ease the daily commute but also benefit tourists as it serves as a route to reach the picturesque Yusmarg tourist spot in Budgam district.
Wasimarg is one of the remote villages in Rajpora Tehsil in this southern region, nestled between Pulwama and Budgam districts.
In response to the residents’ concerns, the Executive Engineer of Pulwama’s R and B department said that they had to halt construction work on the road due to some issues.
“There were some observations due to which the tender was cancelled,” he said, adding that it was retendered but again there were some issues.
He said that they will complete side work by March of next year and after March they will macdamise the road.
