Srinagar, July 21: The Department of Computer Applications at Government College for Women (GCW), M.A. Road, Srinagar, inaugurated a one-week bootcamp on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Drones – The Autonomous Technology’ in collaboration with NIELIT Srinagar, under the SwaYaan project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.As per a statement issued here, the bootcamp aims to introduce students to the cutting-edge intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology, offering a blend of theoretical insights and practical demonstrations. Speaking at the inaugural session, Joint Directors at NIELIT, Dr. Umer Iqbal and Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, underlined the transformative role of AI in modern drone applications. They highlighted its potential in diverse sectors including agriculture, logistics, disaster management, and surveillance, and encouraged students to explore the growing career opportunities emerging in the autonomous systems domain. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq, in her address, stressed the importance of skill-based, technology-driven education. “This bootcamp bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. It provides students a dynamic platform to engage with the evolving landscape of AI-integrated drone systems,” she said. She noted that the week will include sessions covering both core concepts and advanced applications of autonomous technologies. Prof. Rouf Ali, Head of the Department of Computer Applications, delivered the vote of thanks. He also outlined the workshop’s technical framework, thematic sessions, and hands-on learning modules planned for the week. Dr. Junaid Latief, who conducted the proceedings, said that AI-powered drones are revolutionising operational workflows across sectors. “The need for students to develop practical, industry-relevant skills has never been greater,” he said. The bootcamp will include expert-led lectures, live drone demonstrations, and interactive sessions, designed to prepare students for emerging roles in AI and unmanned aerial systems.
