Srinagar, May 18: Gandhi Global Family J&K (GGF) extended humanitarian assistance to affected families in Poonch affected by the recent cross-border firing. The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations SDGs, which highlight the importance of partnerships in crisis response.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with The Daffodils Project, Border Welfare Organisation, Pulastya Foundation and Sangarsh, demonstrating the power of collective civil society action under Goal No 17 of UN SDGs, the GGF said in a press release issued here. The Women’s Wing of GGF Jammu led the distribution of essential supplies, including food items and sanitary pads, while indoor sports kits were also provided to support the well-being of children.
The relief consignment was dispatched under the guidance of Ghulam Nabi Azad, President Gandhi Global Family and former Chief Minister of J&K in the presence of Dr S.P. Varma, President GGF J&K, Dr Alka Sharma President GGF Women Jammu Wing, Summi Sahi Seth Vice President GGF Women Jammu Wing, Dr Parvinder Kour, Renu Anthony, Joginder Kour and Punit Kour.
A dedicated team comprising Dr Nitan Sharma Regional Secretary GGF Jammu region, Adv Waqar Hussain Shah and Avinash Choudhary formally handed over the relief material to Pankaj Magotra, ADDC Poonch, Tahir Malik, ADC Poonch and Mohd Sayeed, ACR Poonch in the presence of prominent civil society members, including Adv Sunil Sharma, President Bar Association Poonch, Naresh Kumar, Ex-Councillor, Adv. Sanjeev Sharma, Syed Nusrat Shah, Adv. Navjot Sharma, Dr Mehak Sharma, Er Ramneek Singh and Nirjyot Singh.
“This marks Gandhi Global Family’s first visit to Poonch post-war crises and the organisation has expressed its willingness to supplement the efforts of the district administration as and when required,” the statement said, adding, “This effort underscores the impact of coordinated civil society responses during humanitarian crises.”
