Srinagar, May 03: District Congress Committee presidents from across Kashmir on Saturday accused former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Vikar Rasool Wani of creating unrest and division within the party following his removal from the top post.
In a joint statement, the DCC presidents said Rasool has still not accepted his removal as PCC chief, and continues to create confusion among the party ranks.
They alleged that during his tenure, the Congress suffered due to his “apolitical approach, arrogance, and encouragement of indiscipline”.
“Even after facing defeat in the assembly elections from Banihal, he is trying to project himself as indispensable by promoting indiscipline and dividing the party,” they said, adding that the issue has already been reported to the Congress High Command.
The DCC president claimed that some “renegades and deadwood” are being used by Vikar to disrupt party activities in Srinagar, and many of them don’t even hold any position or support at the grassroots level.
“One of them couldn’t win a panchayat election and sold his entire Constituency Development Funds (CDF) to contractors in other districts for commissions,” they said.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, District Congress President Anantnag Zaffar Farooq Salati said Rahul Gandhi has made it clear that there is no room for indiscipline in the party. “Some individuals are misusing the name of Congress to create trouble, and we’ve raised our voices against them,” he said.
Another DCC head, Mir Iqbal from Baramulla, said those who are speaking outside the party forum are only creating confusion and giving space to opponents. “We appeal to the leadership in Delhi to take strict action to uphold party discipline,” he added.
“The ones giving such statements are not part of the disciplined Congress. We have already written to the High Command demanding action. Such people should be expelled from the party,” said Er Muzaffar Dar, District President Congress Budgam.
The district presidents said they remain united under the leadership of the current PCC setup and are focused on strengthening the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
