Srinagar, Mar 12: National Conference (NC) Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Ahmad Mir on Wednesday welcomed the announcement of a committee to regularise daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming for a roadmap in six months.
In a statement issued here, Mir welcomed the announcement of a high-powered panel by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, headed by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, to create a roadmap to address the issue of regularising daily wagers, ad hoc workers, and casual labourers across Jammu and Kashmir.
The NC leader said PDP-BJP government and the LG admisnistration had neglected this humanitarian issue, ignoring the daily struggles of thousands of families associated with these employees. “It is time to prioritise the well-being of these workers and their families, and this panel is a step in the right direction towards achieving that goal,” he said.
Mir said, “Promises made by previous governments and bureaucratic regimes since 2014 have proven to be empty, as no concrete measures have been taken to address the issues faced by these employees. The failure to regularise their positions, ensure fair pay, or guarantee timely salary disbursements highlights a deep-rooted apathy that borders on shamelessness. This neglect is not just an administrative lapse; it is a violation of the basic rights and dignity of these professionals.”
The NC Provincial President commended the action taken by the Omar Abdullah-led government in this regard. He expressed hope that a policy will be formulated and tabled in the next budget session. “It is time for real change and accountability in how these valuable employees are treated,” he said.
