Katra, March 3: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) inaugurated a two-day National Workshop-cum Conference on Algebra, Analysis, Topology, and Applications was Monday organised under the PM Usha scheme.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr Rakesh Kumar, Associate Professor, School of Mathematics, and Coordinator of the programme. He provided an overview of the conference, highlighting 15 invited talks by eminent experts from IITs, Central Universities, and State Universities, along with over 50 research paper presentations. Additionally, a special workshop on Cryptography is being conducted during the programme.
Dr Kuldip Raj, Head of the School of Mathematics and Convener of the event, reflected on the department’s progress and its commitment to academic excellence. Prof R.K. Sharma from IIT Delhi, the Guest of Honour, praised the School of Mathematics for its consistent growth and delivered an insightful lecture on Cryptography. Prof Sunil Kumar Wanchoo, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, congratulated the department for frequently organising such academic initiatives and encouraged students to publish their research in high-quality journals.
The Chief Guest, Prof Pragati Kumar (Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU), commended the School of Mathematics for fostering a strong research culture. He emphasised that Mathematics serves as the foundation of all disciplines and encouraged faculty and research scholars to engage in interdisciplinary studies. He also urged the organisers to expand such events to an international scale. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Sandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the event.
