JAMMU, Jan 15: The Indian Army marked the 76th Army Day with unwavering zeal and enthusiasm at Dharmund, Batote, paying homage to the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the nation and its citizens.
In a poignant ceremony, wreaths were laid by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) Delta, along with troops from the Garrison, to honor the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives for the country.
The significance of Army Day, celebrated on January 15 every year, stems from the historic moment when Field Marshal K M Cariappa, then a Lieutenant General, took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Francis Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India.
The 76th Army Day was commemorated at Dharmund, Batote, with a heartfelt ceremony where the GOC CIF (Delta) extended his greetings to all ranks of the Force. He exhorted them to strive towards greater glory and success, emphasizing the importance of self-belief and pride in their profession, the Army, and the nation.
