Srinagar, Feb 03: The National Conference (NC) government will not allow any decision against public interest, and there is no question of electricity privatisation, the party’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said on Monday.
He said the issue of electricity privatisation was brought to the attention of the NC government a long time ago. On the other day, the KPTCL issued an order stating that there is no scope for privatization.
“I have said before that the NC government will not allow any decision against the interests of the people. Some are trying to politicize this issue, but there is no privatisation,” he said.
Dar urged people to support the government in providing relief to the public rather than engaging in unnecessary controversy.
“Yesterday, you saw that the order was brought to the government’s attention and was subsequently cancelled. The NC government has made its stand clear—there is no question of privatising electricity,” he added.
On the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament, the spokesperson criticised the negating of opposition MPs’ demands, saying, “The provisions in the bill undermine the rights of Muslims. No government should interfere in religious practices. Everyone has the right to practice their faith freely.”
He said that all right-thinking MPs committed to upholding the country’s secular and socialist structure should vote against the bill. “We have only two MPs in Parliament, but I hope others who believe in secularism will stand with us. Our MPs will vote against it, but the responsibility lies with all like-minded representatives.”
On the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) budget session and business rules expectations, Dar said, “Our focus is on providing essential facilities that people have been deprived of for years, including in education, healthcare, and other crucial sectors. Unemployment and rising inflation must be tackled, and we are committed to fulfilling our manifesto promises.”
Imran called for better coordination between the Union and J&K governments.
“The Centre must respect the genuine demands made by the Omar Abdullah-led government. This is the right time to restore J&K’s statehood, as repeatedly mentioned by the Prime Minister. This is not a favour but a rightful restoration of what was taken from the people.”
He reiterated that the recently held elections were conducted smoothly, with a high voter turnout of 60%.
“People have shown their commitment to mainstream politics. The Prime Minister himself promised statehood post-election. Now, there is no justification for further delays.”
“The government must listen to the opposition and ensure a meaningful budget session. MPs are elected to raise public concerns, and the government must address them. We hope this time there is no washout, and the treasury benches are ready to face tough questions,” Dar added.
