Strict Dry Day enforcement ordered to prevent election violations
Emphasis on enhanced security measures at Jammu & Srinagar Airports
Jammu, Sept 14: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang K Pole convened a crucial meeting with 22 enforcement agencies at Nirvachan Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, today, as preparations intensify for the J&K Assembly Elections 2024. The meeting focused on ensuring adherence to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) guidelines to maintain a fair and inducement-free election process.
During the meeting, CEO Pole emphasized the need for heightened vigilance at major entry and exit points, including Jammu and Srinagar airports, as well as interstate and border check posts. Financial institutions, such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and UTLBC, were directed to monitor and report suspicious digital transactions to the Income Tax Department for further action.
The CEO also addressed the need for strict enforcement of the Excise Act by the J&K Excise Department, particularly regarding the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises. Additional directives included ensuring compliance with dry day restrictions and launching special operations to identify and dismantle illicit liquor manufacturing sites.
To combat the cultivation of opium and cannabis, the Excise Department was instructed to utilise local officials, including Lumberdars and Chowkidars, in high-risk areas. The meeting also reviewed the agency-wise seizures made since the election announcement, with a call for intensified efforts to uphold ECI guidelines and ensure a fair electoral process.
