Jammu, Jan 18: Labour Commissioner, J&K Charandeep Singh on Thursday chaired an interactive meeting with various Trade Union representatives here to advance workers’ overall socioeconomic well-being.
The representatives of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, Jammu, Centre of Indian Trade Union, Jammu, ASCOMS Employees Welfare Association, Jammu (J&K), Indian National Trade Union Congress and Jammu Marble Workers Union participated in the interaction. The Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu, Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central), J&K, Deputy Director (Planning) and Assistant Labour Commissioners were also present.
The Trade Union representatives while welcoming Charandeep Singh on assuming charge of Labour Commissioner, J&K assured their support in raising awareness among the workers regarding various schemes of the government being implemented for their welfare across the UT. They gave a brief about their working and union constitutional mandate.
Detailed deliberations were held on issues of common interest with Labour Commissioner J&K reiterating that the welfare of labour and improving their living standard shall remain the primary focus of cooperation between the Department and the Trade Unions.
“Trade Unions play a crucial role in advancing interests of workers and allowing amicable solutions of issues between establishments and workers,” the Labour Commissioner said, adding that unions are a good source of information on workplace practices and non-compliance with labour laws.
Singh sought the cooperation of the trade unions in ensuring that the benefits of labour welfare schemes of the government reach the workers of both the organized and unorganized sectors and effective implementation of labour laws.
