Srinagar, May 03: The Director Agriculture Kashmir Chawdhry Mohammad Iqbal on Friday visited the floating gardens at Rainawari and adjacent areas. He also visited commercial floriculture nurseries established by some agipreanures in the area.
While talking to the vegetable growers, director agriculture assured them of every possible technical support from the departments. He said that the vegetables (tomato, pumpkins, cucumber, melon, water melon etc) grown on these floating gardens are purely organic. He said that these floating vegetable gardens are one of the important tourist attractions for the tourists visiting inner areas of dal lake, kara-pura Rainawari, Abi-Nowpora etc areas.
Pertinently the floating gardens are formed from the weeds after collecting from the lake waters itself. Director asked the concerned officers to organize awareness programmes for vegetable growers of said areas so that they could add new crops/ varieties to their cultivation list.
