Srinagar, Apr 01:In a proactive stance to ensure the safety and security of all stakeholders during the LokSabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain assured the public of comprehensive security measures during the upcoming LokSabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the passing out parade of 30th BRTC at SardarPrithinandan Singh, Police Training School, Kathua, Swain emphasised the tireless efforts of security forces to safeguard all stakeholders throughout the electoral process.
“We are working day and night to keep everyone safe. Our officers and forces are planning and acting to protect voters, rallies, and candidates,” Swain affirmed, highlighting the critical importance of security in the region.
Swain underscored the need to view security as a necessity rather than a status symbol, emphasising the significance of providing professional security to individuals facing threats. In line with this, the J&K Police is contemplating a new mechanism to integrate technology and physical infrastructure to bolster security measures.
“We want to promise that through the use of technology, such as CCTVs, physical infrastructure like security lights and sensors, security will be strengthened,” Swain explained, envisioning a balanced approach to ensure the safety of all individuals, especially those deemed important and under threat.
Addressing concerns about security resources, DGP Swain stressed that security should not be considered a status symbol but rather a necessity, especially in a region like Jammu and Kashmir. He underscored the importance of providing security professionally while adapting to changing circumstances.
“We are working to show the community that the police are there for them. They plan to use technology and other methods to ensure proper security while reducing the number of personnel assigned to protect individuals,” explained DGP Swain, emphasizing the strategic use of resources to optimize security coverage.
“Efforts are underway to communicate to stakeholders that police resources are primarily intended for public safety and maintaining law and order,”Swain said, drawing a comparison with security arrangements in Europe, highlighting the aim to minimize the need for individual security by deploying resources effectively for broader security objectives.
Regarding preparations for the upcoming LokSabha polls, DGP Swain affirmed that top security officials are liaising with the Centre to guarantee a secure environment for the electoral process. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance female representation in the police force, with plans to increase the current six percent participation rate.
During the event, DGP Swain extended a warm welcome to the pass-outs, acknowledging their dedication and commitment. He commended the efforts of Director SKPA, UdhampurGaribDass, and Principal SPS PTS KathuaManjitKour (SSP) for their diligent training of police personnel.
The occasion also witnessed tributes paid to fallen heroes of the J&K Police, with DGP Swain inaugurating ShaheedManoharLal Park and participating in a tree plantation drive. The LokSabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be conducted in five phases, with vote counting set for June 4.
