Srinagar, 24 Jan: Upper reaches and parts of south Kashmir Tuesday received snowfall, while rain lashed plains in the Valley. The Meteorological Department has predicted widespread snowfall in south Kashmir and Chenab Valley, officials said.
Director MeT, Srinagar Centre Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that light snowfall, rain occurred at isolated places of Kashmir and continued till late Tuesday evening.
“As per the forecast, there are chances of widespread moderate to heavy snowfall over isolated higher reaches of South Kashmir. It will also affect Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts of Jammu division from 24th evening till 25th January afternoon and gradually decrease thereafter,” Lotus said.
He said on 26 -28th January, weather will remain generally cloudy with chances of light snowfall, rain at isolated places.
“Overall, weather is very likely to remain erratic with cloudy, intermittent light rain, snow till the end of January in entire J&K,” Director MeT said.
As per the MeT advisory, people living in snowbound areas are advised to remain alert and cautious while venturing into areas that are vulnerable to snow avalanches.
