Srinagar, July 22: The District Srinagar Squash Championship, organized by the District Srinagar Squash Rackets Association in collaboration with the J&K Squash Rackets Association, reached a thrilling conclusion today at the Squash Complex, Gindun Stadium, Rajbagh Srinagar. The championship was conducted under the banner of “My Youth My Pride Initiative” by the J&K Sports Council, reflecting their commitment to promoting sports in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The championship witnessed an overwhelming response from the sporting community, with more than players from various Registered Clubs, Colleges, and Schools across Srinagar District competing in different age categories, including Under Boys & Girls, Under Boys & Girls, Under Boys & Girls, Under Boys & Girls, Senior Men & Women, and Men’s Over.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Kabra Altaf, Member of the J&K Sports Council, Colonial Ravi Kumar Kulkarni, and Hilal Ahmad, Deputy Manager of Gindun Stadium Rajbagh Srinagar, who attended as Guests of Honors. Office Bearers and Members of the association also graced the occasion as Special Guests.
The Chief Guest, Muzaffar Hussain, Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the District Srinagar Squash Rackets Association for successfully organizing the championship in a highly professional manner. He emphasized the need for more regular club-level tournaments to further elevate the sport of squash in the region. Hussain pledged the full support of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council in providing every possible facility for the promotion and development of squash in the Union Territory.
Kabra Altaf, Member of the J&K Sports Council, delivered an inspiring speech, urging the young and talented participants, especially the girls, to continue their dedication to the sport of squash. She expressed immense pride in witnessing hundreds of girls participating in the championship and highlighted the vast potential for girls in squash.
The closing ceremony saw the distribution of medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up of various categories. The enthusiastic participants and their supporters echoed the slogan “SAY NO TO DRUGS, YES TO SPORTS” in unison, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and a healthy lifestyle.
The final results of the championship are as: Men Over: Adil Rafiq, Amir Maqdoomi, Shahid Khan.
Men’s Section: Winner: Gul Yazdan, runner-up: Suhail Amin, third place: Mugais.
Women’s Section: Winner: Rida Tariq, runner-up: Aiman, third place: Sadiya.
Under Boys: Winner: Zubair Manzoor, runner-up: Huzaif Farooq, third place: Basit Bashir.
Junior Girls Under: Winner: Faadiya Saqib, runner-up: Aazia Vakil, third place: Aayat Tariq.
Junior Boys Under: Winner: Saqib Wani, runner-up: Mehfooz, third place: Aayan Naqeeb.
The Team Events also witnessed some intense competition, with Doon International School emerging as the Winner in the Under Boys category, and G D Goenka School securing the top spot in the Under Girls category.
The championship’s success was made possible by the generous sponsorship of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, who demonstrated their commitment to fostering sports excellence in the region.
