Fire erupted in a labourers’ quarter located at the AIIMS construction site in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday night.
The quick response of Fire and Emergency station officials averted a potential disaster.
Shakeel Ahmad, the Incharge of the Fire and Emergency station in Awantipora, reported that a multi-roomed quarter constructed from aluminium sheets was engulfed in flames.
The quarter, which provided shelter to labourers, suffered significant damage during the blaze.
“ There were some gas cylinders inside which bursted making dousing the flames challenging for us,” he said.
The swift actions of the firefighting team successfully extinguished the flames, preventing further destruction.
