Jammu, July 17: Jammu and Kashmir government has introduced a unique initiative for animal lovers by offering wild animals of different species up for adoption in Jammu’s Jambu Zoo.
For adopting the rare species of animals kept at Jambo Zoo, the people will have to pay a monthly fee.
The initiative has been taken by the government after repeated suggestions and requests from the animal lovers.
As per the government order, animal lovers can adopt rare animals kept at Jambo Zoo namely, Lion, Tiger, Leopard, Bear and Dear.
The government, however, has fixed different rates for adopting the animals of rare species. “For Asiatic Lion, brought from Gujrat, one has to pay Rs 7,000 per month, for adopting leopard, one has to pay Rs 6000 per month, for adopting Bear, one has to pay Rs 3,000 per month,” reads the official order.
Apart from this, the rare Black Buck can be adopted by paying Rs 3,000 per month and Jungle Cat can be adopted by paying Rs 25,00 per month, the official order further reads.
Similarly Crocodile and Porcupine can be adopted by paying Rs 1000 per month.
“Two to three (2-3) people have already approached us and deposited money for adopting rare species of animals kept at Jambo Zoo,” Forester, Sanjeev Sharma informed Rising Kashmir.
“The Jambu Zoo’s adoption campaign aims to foster a connection and inculcate a sense of belongingness and pride in citizens regarding wildlife and its conservation,” the order reads.
Adopter will receive an animal adoption certificate and their names will be prominently displayed on a board with size 2X1.5 feet near the adopted animal’s enclosure.
