Srinagar: In a significant step towards providing vocational education to students in government schools, the School Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has established 803 vocational labs across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with an additional 532 labs in the process of being set up.
An official from the Samagra Shiksha, J&K told Rising Kashmir that the main objective behind establishing these vocational labs in government schools is to equip students with vocational skills using specialized tools and equipment. This practical experience will not only enhance their understanding of the subjects but also prepare them for future careers, as skill-based courses are in high demand worldwide.
“The vocational labs offer hands-on training, allowing students to acquire practical skills directly related to specific trades or professions. This approach bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, enabling students to better retain and comprehend the material compared to traditional classroom settings,” official said.
He said that in the next five years, the plan is to establish an additional 1,910 vocational labs across Jammu and Kashmir.
“These labs will play a crucial role in preparing individuals for the workforce, supporting economic development, and providing accessible career opportunities through practical hands-on training,” official said.
