Traffic restrictions imposed in Leh City to curb jams

Leh, May 09: In response to increasing traffic congestion within Leh city following the opening of National Highways, the District Magistrate of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, has issued an order imposing restrictions on the movement of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) within municipal limits.
Asper the order issues by DM Kargil that reads Consequent upon the opening of National Highways, it has been observed that heavy jams are taking place at multiple locations in Leh city due to movement of vehicles, especially the Heavy Motor Vehicies (HMVs).
Therefore, In view of the above, and in order to ensure effective traffic management within Leh city area, I,Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, District Magistrate, Leh in exercise of power conferred upon me vide section 144 of CrPC hereby order that: “The movement of all heavy motor vehicles within the municipal limits of Leh city shall be prohibited between the hours of 08:00 AM to 10:00 PM”, The order reads.
Residents, commuters, and stakeholders are advised to adhere to the imposed restrictions and cooperate with traffic management efforts to maintain orderly movement within Leh city limits.
