The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan on Tuesday visited flash flood hit Doban Kachama village of Kupwara district to take firsthand appraisal of the situation arisen after the breach in water reservoir, triggered by flash floods and take the on-site assessment of the flood prevention measures.

The DC walked a 2 km uphill stretch and reached the water reservoir, located atop the village and took a detailed stock of current status of water level of the reservoir and flood prevention measures. She also took on-ground assessment of the loss caused to the R&B road and other property.

She inspected the reservoir and reviewed the arrangements put in place to tackle any untoward situation.

The DC directed Ex. Engineer I&FC to make the water outlet of the reservoir fully functional and construct a flood gate for the water reservoir. She also directed the concerned to take up fencing work wherever required to avoid erosion of embankments of water reservoirs and also instructed the concerned to construct a drain.

Ayushi instructed Ex. Engineer I&FC to conduct an inquiry into the incident of breach into the reservoir.

Ayushi urged people, who were evacuated to safer places by authorities, to stay at safer places for some more time until the water level recedes and situation improves.

The DC directed Tehsildar Kralpora and Ex. Engineer R&B to assess the damages caused due to recent flash floods to the road and property of the local residents.

The women of the area raised issues with the DC regarding damage caused to the road, and other problems in the village. Ayushi while interacting with women assured them that restoration work of the damaged Doban road will be started soon and their other issues shall be resolved on priority.

Later, the DC interacted with the locals of Darnard Kachama, and took feedback from them with regard to the measures being taken and suggestions to tackle floods, etc.

The DC was accompanied by ACR Kupwara, Irfan Bahadur, Ex. Engineers of I&FC and R&B, besides other senior officers of the district.
