Beat Guard receives ‘forestry award’ for meritorious service in Kulgam

Kulgam, March 22: Rashid Ahmad Laway, a Beat Guard of Kulgam Forest Division, was conferred with Union Territory (UT) level award, the “Forestry Award,” for his outstanding work in the Forest department.
The award was presented to him in recognition of meritorious service in the Forest Department, with the UT level Forestry Award on International Day of Forests, March 21st, 2024 at SKICC Srinagar.
Raashid, a resident of Manzgam Kulgam, joined the Forest Department in 2018 and is currently stationed at Forest Range Veshow within the Special Forest Division Kulgam.
An official said that the objective of the award is to recognize outstanding work done by the Forest Field Staff and to encourage and promote competence and dedication among forest personnel.
Rashid said that it was a proud moment for him to receive recognition at the UT Level.
“The award will go a long way and boost my morale to do more good service to the department. This was an honor to get facilitated at the UT level,” he said, adding that he is grateful to the department for recognizing his service.
Peerzada Riyaz Ahmad, Range Officer (RO) Veshew, also congratulated him on this achievement and wished him the best for further service to the Range and to the Forest department.
He said that this recognition serves as a morale booster for Raashid and other employees of the department, and it is important that the work is being recognized, which helps to strive for excellence in serving society.
Every year, 20 Forest officials working as Forest Rangers, Foresters, and Forest Guards in the Forest Department are being honored with this award.
The award consists of a citation and a medallion along with a cash award of Rs. 25,000/-.
He said that the award is given for meritorious service and achievement of the individual field personnel in Forest Protection and anti-smuggling operations; Afforestation and plantation work; working plan, training, and demarcation works.
