Pune, Dec 10: Superb batting display by the trio of Sheena Saraf, Bawandeep Kour and Shambhavi, along with a splendid bowling show by skipper Ananaya Sharma went in vain as Jammu and Kashmir suffered a 6-wicket defeat against Bihar in a high scoring match of Women’s U-19 One-Day Tournament here on Saturday.
Poor bowling show by almost all the bowlers except Ananaya and Sadiya Wani coupled with fielding lapses resulted in J&K’s defeat.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, J&K scored a good total of 212 runs in the stipulated 50 overs. Sheena Saraf showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up a brilliant half-century, while Bawandeep Kour and Shambhavi also gave valuable contributions. Sheena top scored with 68 runs off 110 balls, while Bawandeep contributed 38 off 59 balls with 5 fours and one massive six off the very first ball of the innings and Shambhavi scored a magnificent 33 runs off 59 balls with 3 boundaries. Elegance, brilliance, sublimity and solidity was the trademark of their batting. Maroof (17), Ananaya (13) and Rudrakshi (12) were the other contributors.
Aarya was the pick of the bowlers for Bihar who took 2 important wickets, while Khushi Gupta, Baby Rozi and Nishtha claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Bihar chased the target easily in 35.5 overs, losing 4 wickets in the process, thus winning the match by 6 wickets. Yashita Singh top scored with 61 off 62 balls, studded with 9 fours, while Aarya contributed unbeaten 47 runs. Wicketkeeper Shruti and skipper Harshita contributed 44 and 29 runs to the total respectively.
For J&K, Ananaya Sharma took 2 wickets, while Sadiya Wani and Rudrakshi Chib claimed one wicket each. Rudrakshi was expensive, while all the other bowlers were out of sorts and failed to show any discipline.
