Bandipora, Aug 04: Government Middle School in Onagam village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has made its premises junk-free.
Principal, Javaid Jawad told Rising Kashmir that the school has taken a comprehensive initiative to eradicate unhealthy food options from its surroundings, aiming to ensure the students’ nutrition and overall well-being.
By actively encouraging parents, especially mothers, to substitute sugary snacks and packaged junk food with nutritious alternatives, the school has empowered its students to make informed dietary choices that can significantly influence their physical and cognitive development, he added.
Javaid said that recognizing the impact of a balanced diet on academic performance and overall well-being, the school provides nutritious food on a daily basis which contains eggs, cheese, pulses and vegetables to its students.
“We believe in the essential role of promoting a healthy lifestyle in nurturing the potential leaders of tomorrow. Our decision to eliminate junk food from the school premises is geared toward establishing a culture of well-being and instilling lifelong habits that will contribute to our students’ success,” he said, adding, “With this initiative, we hope GMS Onagam can now stand as an exemplar for other educational institutions aspiring to prioritize the health and welfare of their students.”
